Don’t miss our Christmas Service
Sunday 25th December 2011 @ 07:30
All Welcome!
Jesus is Better than Santa
Santa lives at the North Pole.
JESUS is everywhere.
Santa rides in a sleigh
JESUS rides on the wind and walks on the water.
Santa comes but once a year
JESUS is an ever present help.
Santa fills your stockings with goodies
JESUS supplies all your needs.
Santa comes down your chimney uninvited
JESUS stands at your door and knocks..
and then enters your heart.
You have to stand in line to see Santa
JESUS is as close as the mention of His name.
Santa lets you sit on his lap
JESUS lets you rest in His arms.
Santa doesn’t know your name, all he can say is “Hi little boy or girl, What’s your name?”
JESUS knew our name before we did. Not only does He know our name, He knows our address too. He knows our history and future and He even knows
how many hairs are on our heads.
Santa has a belly like a bowl full of jelly
JESUS has a heart full of love.
All Santa can offer is HO HO HO
JESUS offers health, help and hope.
Santa says “You better not cry”
JESUS says “Cast all your cares on me for I care for you. Santa’s little helpers make toys
JESUS makes new life, mends wounded hearts,
repairs broken homes and builds mansions.
Santa may make you chuckle but
JESUS gives you joy that is your strength.
While Santa puts gifts under your tree
JESUS became our gift and died on the tree.
It’s obvious there is really no comparison.
We need to remember WHO Christmas is all about.
We need to put Christ back in Christmas.
Jesus is still the reason for the season

Gal 5:22+23
AIM: That we’ll test the fruit in our own lives to see if we measure up to God’s standards!! That we’ll adapt our lives and attitudes to bear much fruit and so glorify the Father.
Our mission statement as given by Jesus.
John 15:1-16
(v16) Jesus said He chose us that we should go and bear fruit, and that our fruit should remain.
(v2) Branches not bearing fruit He takes away and branches bearing fruit He prunes that it may bear more fruit.
(v5) He is the vine, we are the branches, when we abide in Him we bear much fruit without Him we can do nothing.
(v8) We glorify the Father when we bear much fruit.
Temperance (self-control, control or restraint of one’s passions, appetites and desires.
Meekness – gentleness, humility, friendliness. Meekness is not weakness: controlled emotions and temper.
Faithfulness – a person who is faithful, reliable, loyal, steadfast, devoted, trustworthy, dependable, dedicated, constant and unwavering.
Goodness – being and doing good, generous, big-hearted, liberal; a giver.
Jesus was our example of goodness. Acts 10:38 …went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed…
Goodness: is that supernatural urge in a person to reach beyond himself to meet the natural needs of those around him.
Longsuffering – patient restraint of anger – forbearance and patience, endurance.
Longsuffering is like a candle that has a very long wick and is therefore prepared to burn a long time (a long fuse). It is ready to forbear and patiently wait until someone finally comes around, makes progress, changes, or hears what you are trying to communicate or teach them.
Col 3:12 …put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering. Do it!! Choose it!!
1 Thess 5:14 Now we exhort your brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all
Patience (Heb 6:12 (WW) – long – temper, lenience, forbearance, fortitude, patient endurance, longsuffering.
Includes – the ability to endure persecution and ill treatment.
It describes a person who has the power to exercise revenge but instead exercises restraint.
Eph 4:1+2 (+NKJ) …live a life that measures up to the standard God set when He called you. [v2] be always humble, gentle and patient, show your love by being tolerant with one another…
Rom 12:9-21 …behave like Christ.
Col 1:10-11
Longsuffering is so different from the flesh, which is easily angered, blows up, loses it’s temper, says things it regrets later, and doesn’t want to give the same mercy to others that it demands others give to it.
If you allow longsuffering to work in you, you won’t be frustrated with everyone (including yourself) all the time.
You’ll be more tolerant of others, more peaceful within yourself, and a lot more loving and patient toward those whom you love and need so much.
Kindness – (WW Gal 5:22) Gentleness, joy, friendliness, sweetness of disposition, compassionate, considerate, sympathetic, humane, kind, gentle.
Does not demand others be like themselves.
Gives the idea of being adaptable to others.
1 Cor 9:20-22 …Paul became all things to all men – adaptable
2 Cor 10:1 … Now I, Paul, myself am pleading with you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ –
Gentleness, (meekness, kindness) WW 1 Tim 6:11
A Disposition that is even-tempered, tranquil, balanced in spirit, unpretentious, and that has its passions under control. The person who possesses this quality pardons injuries (forgives) corrects faults and rules his own spirit well. (self-control)
Gentleness (kindness, meekness) WW Acts 24:4 …courtesy, graciousness, gentleness, moderation, sweet reasonableness, mildness, fairness, kindness, forbearance, what is right or fitting.
James 3:16-18
Kindness is the supernatural work of God when we become adaptable to meet the needs of others around us.
Jesus our example. Phil 4:5 … let your gentleness (kindness) be known to all men…(laat julle vriendelikheid aan alle mense bekend word)
Longsuffering & (gentleness) Kindness work hand in hand.
Allow kindness to be the rule for everything you say and do. (Prov 31:26)

Mark 10:17-22
Aim: That we’ll stop and see what is most important in our lives.
Background: Young man running after Jesus and kneeling before Him.
- What did he want to hear? Have his ears tickled?
- Seems he grew up in church!
- Seems a little self-righteous
- Asks, hears the Word but chooses no to do the word. Mark 4:7+18+19 Matt7:24 …hears and does Jesus’ sayings…
- Luke 21:34 But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing (dissipation), drunkenness and cares of this life,…
(Liv. Bib) Watch out! Don’t let my sudden coming catch you unawares; don’t let me find you living in careless ease, carousing (feasting) and drinking, and occupied with the problems of this life, like all the rest of the world.
Matt 6:19-21 …do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth…
Luke 14:25-33 …leave all to follow Christ.
Mark 8:34-38,
Luke 9:23 … take up his cross daily and follow me.
Jesus says Rev 3:16+17
Remember worldly assets have no spiritual or heavenly value.
Return to a spiritual value system wherever you have departed.
Be zealous – Repent.
Nicodemus John 3:3-7
Crowd to Peter
Men and brethren, what shall we do?
Peter said: Repent and let everyone of you be baptized for the remission (forgiveness) of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit for the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off.
You ask what must I do?
Repent, be born again, take up your cross and follow Him daily!
Mark 13:15 …but he who endures to the end shall be saved.
Who do you serve?
WHO DO YOU SERVE?

Matt 6:24
Aim: That we’ll choose to serve God daily!! Check our lives and see who we’ve been serving.
Matt 6:24 … No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
Luke 16:13-15 …v15 (NKJ) … but God know your heart.
Be loyal to God.
Forsake any ambition that compromises your commitment to God – Can you afford this?
Live righteously – such living comes from the heart.
Don’t judge yourself and your success by human standards. Remember that popularity and human approval do not necessarily indicate God’s approval of a situation.
Luke 12:4+5 Realize that God has power over death and hell. Have reverence for Him.
Fear – Respect God + Serve Him!! Heb 10:30-31…it’s a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Living God.
Place your life before God. Rom 12:1+2
Get serious about serving God. James 4:4-10 (NKJ) v4. Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God?
Don’t love the world 1 John 2:15+17
We are living in the world but must not partake of the spirit of the world.
When we truly set our affection on God, the lusts of the flesh are reduced as a problem.
We are not to be like Lot’s wife, who regretted the loss of the world.
Do not se your affections on, or live sacrificially on behalf of anything that
- Appeals to your fleshly appetites
- Appeals to your covetousness or greed
- Fosters pride or arrogance.
Do not allow anything to lessen even slightly your worship, service, ore devotion to God.
Fear the Lord – Serve Him. Josh 24:14+15
Choose Life Deut 30:19+20
CHOOSE TO SERVE GOD!!
