God Created You to Help Others

God Created You to Help Others

by Rick Warren

Now you belong to him … in order that you might be useful in the service of God. Romans 7:4 (TEV)

Regardless of your job or career, you are called to full-time Christian  service. A “non-serving Christian” is a contradiction in terms.

The Bible says, “He saved us and called us to be his own people, not because of what we have done, but because of his own purpose” (2 Tim 1:9 TEV).

Peter adds, “You were chosen to tell about the excellent qualities of God, who called you” (1 Pet 2:9 GW).

Growing up, you may have thought that being called by God was something only missionaries, pastors, nuns, and other full-time church workers experienced, but the Bible says every Christian is called to service (Eph 4:4 –14; see also Romans 1:6–7; 8:28–30;1 Cor 1:2, 9, 26; 7:17; Phil 3:14; 1 Pet 2:9; 2 Pet 1:3).

When you use your God-given abilities to help others, you are fulfilling your calling. The Bible says, “Now you belong to him … in order that you might be useful in the service of God” Rom 7:4 (TEV).

John 16:7

…nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you…

Intro: Advantage – we look back to the cross (finished work) we look back to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit (finished work). We no longer need to wait for either – we have to receive it.

Jesus commands the disciples to wait for the Promise of the Father Acts 1:4+5+8

Further promise than new birth. Receive the Holy Spirit when born again John 20:22. Now further power to be witnesses -  – do the work of the ministry. Acts 1:8

Another Helper John 14:16+17

“WordWealth(WW)” Another … another of the same kind…

He said: To our advantage – another, the same, helper – we are blessed we have the Holy Spirit, who will never, never leave us and never, never forsake us. (Heb 13:5 + WW)

Could be translated John 14:6 … I will pray to the Father, and He will send you someone who is just like me in every way. He will be identical to me in the way He speaks, the way He thinks, the way He operates, the way He sees things, and the way He does things. He will be exactly like Me in every way. If the Holy Spirit is here, it will be just as if I am here because we think, behave and operate exactly the same.

Jesus exact image of the Father. John 14:9 .. seen me has seen the Father

Heb 1:3 (AMP) and Holy Spirit just like Jesus!!

If you have the Holy Spirit, it will be just as if you have Me..

Work of the Holy Spirit

John 15:26 (WW) – 16:1-14

Holy Spirit testify of Jesus

16v7… the loss of the bodily presence of Jesus will be more than compensated by the coming of the Holy Spirit…

Why Has He Come?

Ø      To unbelievers to convict of sin – that they need Jesus as saviour (v9).

Ø      To believers of righteousness – that we are in right standing with God (v10) 2 Cor 5:21 (LB).

Ø      Of judgement, because the ruler of this world is judged (v11) – Convict of the defeat of Satan.

Ø      Spirit of Truth can and must be trusted. Speaks and does only what Jesus and the Father speak and do. (v13)

Remind of Jesus’ teachings John 14:26

Baptism in Holy Spirit

Ø      Receive power to do ministry

Ø      Separate encounter from new birth

Ø      You receive

Ø      You speak

Be continually filled – speak in tongues regularly.

Receive Holy Spirit to be church not to have church.

God Smiles When We Trust

God Smiles When We Trust

by Rick Warren

“By faith, Noah built a ship in the middle of dry land. He was warned about something he couldn’t see, and acted on what he was told …. As a result, Noah became intimate with God.” Hebrews 11:7 (MSG)

You believe God will keep his promises, help you with problems, and do the impossible when necessary.

Imagine this scene: One day God comes to Noah and says, “I’m disappointed in human beings. In the entire world, no one but you thinks about me. But Noah, when I look at you, I start smiling. I’m pleased with your life, so I’m going to flood the world and start over with you and your family. I want you to build a giant ship that will save you and the animals.”

There were three problems that could have caused Noah to doubt:

1) Noah had never seen rain because, prior to the flood, God irrigated the earth from the ground up;

2) Noah lived hundreds of miles from the nearest ocean;

3) There was the problem of rounding up all the animals and then caring for them.

But Noah trusted God completely, and that made God smile.

Trusting God completely means having faith that God knows what is best for your life. You expect him to keep his promises, help you with problems, and do the possible when necessary.

Trusting is an act of worship. Just as parents are pleased when children trust them, your faith makes God happy. The Bible says, “Without faith it is impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6 NIV).

In what areas of your life do you need to trust God completely?

What Must We Do?

What Must We Do?

05 June 2011 (am)

Intro: We have been given so much; eternal life, forgiveness of sins, justification, righteousness…

We have the Word! Been taught so much!!

Is that good enough? NO!!! We must be doers of the work. James 1:22

We have ALL been given the ministry of reconciliation 2 Cor 5:18

And our love for Christ should compel us to do all He has commanded us to do. (2 Cor 5:14)

As an act of worship we are to make a difference Matt 28:19+20 commanded to make disciples.

HOW?

Jesus described the essential character of kingdom citizens in the beatitudes – “Let this be your attitude!!) sermon on the mount.

Matt 5:13-16 (MSG) – Salt and light indicate our influence for good as we penetrate secular society. (Where we live, shop, work, go to school).

Mark 9:50 Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavour, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves…

Salt preserves from corruption. Salt – shop (no praise/acknowledgement)

If we lose the flavour of true discipleship in striving after selfish ambition, we become useless as Christians.

Luke 14:33-35 (MSG)

Discipleship is total commitment to Jesus.

In the world, not of this world.

Ø      In order to flavour society we must retain a spirit of self-sacrifice.

Ø      Not my will be done, but THY will be done…

Recognize that your life has either a positive or negative effect.

Live responsibly to bring glory to God.

Be loyal to God. Forsake any ambition that compromises your commitment to God.

Honour the Lord as the highest authority.

BE LIGHT (no praise or acknowledgement)

Matt 5:14-16 (MSG)

Mark 4:21-23 (MSG)

John 8:12Jesus spoke to them again saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life…

+MSG

Ø      As He is so are we, in this world (1 John 4:17)

Eph 5:8 (NKJV) …for you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord, walk as children of light…

Eph 5:8-10 (MSG)

1 John 1:5-7 (MSG) …be open and transparent in all you do…

1 John 2:15-17 + 26-29

What must we do? Be salt and light!!!
